Deep Cabinet Organization: Stop Losing Pans in the Back
Turn a deep, dark lower cabinet into one you can see from the front, sized to your cabinet opening.
Updated 2026-10-01
Deep lower cabinets are great at hiding things. The fix is to bring the back of the cabinet to the front: pull-out baskets for pans, a vertical rack for lids, and risers for the corners. The catch is the door opening, which is usually narrower than the inside.
Measure these first
- Interior depthMeasure from the inside of the face frame to the back wall at shelf level.
- Door opening width, with the door openHinges and the center stile can take away an inch or more. The pull-out has to pass through this opening.
- Height from shelf to the cabinet top or next shelfTall pots and vertical lid racks need this clearance.
Pick the shape that fits
Pull-out sliding basket
Brings pans forward. Check whether it mounts with screws or sits freely if you rent.
Vertical lid and pan rack
Stores lids on edge so they stop sliding off stacks.
Stackable shelf riser
Doubles usable space in tall cabinets without any hardware.
Picks that fit
We are measuring and comparing options for this space. Use the steps above in the meantime; picks are added here once they pass our fit check.
Questions
What about corner cabinets?
Measure the diagonal clearance through the door. Turntables or half-moon pull-outs are made for corner shapes.
